The Goonies (1985)

Are you short on cash? Is the economy getting you down? Are you job-less and looking for something to do?

Stop saving and go where the real money is. Treasure hunting.

Cyndi Lauper applied treasure hunting methods, and got the results seen here:

The movie The Goonies is proof that no one should be forced to move from their home because of plans for a new golf course to go in it’s place. The problem can be easily solved by stumbling across a map in your attic, follow it’s directions in Latin, and bring along all your closet friends to find the greatest treasure of all- a seven foot man named Sloth.

The closest I have ever come to searching for lost treasure is at a themed restaurant in Denver, Colorado named Casa Bonita. They had a cave set up where you could walk through and grab a toy out of a treasure chest. Thrilling yes, but clearly not the same.

The action of this movie starts faster than you can say “truffle shuffle.” There’s car chases, sword fighting, booby traps, and slick shoes.

The Goonies is a story of triumph. The “bad guys” go home in handcuffs and the “good guys” go home unscathed and with a marble bag full of gems. A classic tale of good vs. evil.

Troop Beverly Hills (1989)

Camping. Cookies. The glitz and  glamor of Beverly Hills. Add these three ingredients together and what do you get? Troop Beverly Hills.Starring Shelley Long. You loved her as Diane Chambers on Cheers; now she’s roughing it in the woods as Phyllis Nefler, troop leader of everyone’s favorite Wilderness Girl’s troop-Troop Beverly Hills.

Who wouldn’t want to camp in the woods with fondue and a fur coat? Well, Phyllis actually. So after they get out of the dirt, they check into a room at the Beverly Hills Hotel. One bathroom for nine people? Definitely roughing it. The Wilderness Girl district leader, and all around wet-blanket Velda Plendor thinks otherwise. She strips the troop of all the badges that Phyllis so creatively came up with for the girls. Phyllis has to get serious to prove to Velda that she, and the rest of the girls of Troop Beverly Hills, are real Wilderness Girls. So they sell cookies. Lots and lots of Wilderness Girl cookies. Here’s how-

I dare you to watch this movie and resist going out and buying as many Girl Scout cookies as your car can carry.

Fun Things About This Movie:

- Jenny Lewis of the band Rilo Kiley plays Hannah Nefler, Phyllis Nefler’s daughter.

- Jasmine’s all around sassy-ness, especially in the scene where her father almost gets a ticket.

- The fact that silicone is boyant.

- Kareem Abdul Jabbar loves cookies.

Amazing Quotes:

- “We’re the girls from Beverly Hills, shopping is our greatest thrill!”

- “Her recommendations for a campsite were totally unsuitable. There were no outlets. And there was dirt, and bugs, and… and it rains there. So anyway, we’ve found a place that’s much more us: the Beverly Hills Hotel.”

- “Throw Me a Life Saver!” “Butterscotch or Wintergreen?”

- “I may be a beginner at some things, but I’ve got a black belt in shopping!”
